KUALA LUMPUR – The passing of Malaysia’s fifth Prime Minister, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, has touched hearts far beyond the nation’s borders, with world leaders and foreign missions paying emotional tribute to a man they remembered as a statesman of dignity, humility, and enduring legacy.
Among the first to extend condolences was Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who described Tun Abdullah as not only a national figure but also a steadfast defender of the Muslim Ummah especially the Palestinian cause.
“On behalf of the government and people of Palestine, and in my personal capacity, I extend my deepest condolences to the family of Tun Abdullah and to all Malaysians.
He dedicated his life to the service of his country and stood firmly for causes that mattered deeply to Muslims around the world,” said President Abbas in a heartfelt message shared by the Palestinian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
He prayed for the late Prime Minister’s soul to be showered with divine mercy and placed among the righteous in eternal paradise, and for his family to be granted strength and peace during this time of loss.
The Embassy of Ukraine also joined the chorus of international sympathy, describing Tun Abdullah as a leader whose devotion to Malaysia would remain a source of inspiration for generations to come.
“The Embassy of Ukraine expresses its heartfelt condolences to the family of Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and to the people of Malaysia. May his soul rest in peace. His lifelong dedication to the nation will continue to inspire,” the statement read.
Echoing that sentiment, the German Embassy in Malaysia paid tribute to Tun Abdullah’s legacy as Malaysia’s Father of Human Capital Development a title that reflected his commitment to building a knowledgeable and skilled society.
“We extend our deepest condolences to Tun Abdullah’s family and to all Malaysians. His legacy will be remembered with great respect. May he rest in peace,” said the embassy.
Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi passed away on April 14 at the National Heart Institute (IJN), Kuala Lumpur, at the age of 85.
