KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) foiled an attempt to smuggle 45 items suspected to be animal horns involving a 57-year-old Indonesian man at Penang International Airport (LTAPP) on yesterday.
AKPS said the man had arrived from Guangzhou, China, on a China Southern flight when officers inspected his baggage and discovered the items.
The items, estimated to be worth RM5,000, were found to have been brought into the country without the required permission or valid documentation under Section 68(1)(b) of the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 (Act 716).
The seized items were subsequently handed over to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) for further investigation.
AKPS said the case highlighted the agency’s continued efforts to curb cross-border crimes, particularly wildlife trafficking, through closer cooperation with relevant enforcement agencies.
It also said screening and enforcement measures at the country’s international entry points would be strengthened to prevent smuggling activities.
The suspect, a 57-year-old Indonesian national, was intercepted following checks conducted on his baggage after arriving from Guangzhou. -MalayaDailyToday
