KUALA LUMPUR – Keadilan will not bow to pressure or allow itself to be dictated by Subang MP Wong Chen, insisting that all decisions will continue to be guided by party principles, its constitution and the broader interests of the party’s struggle.
Keadilan deputy secretary-general Sivamalar Genapathy said Wong Chen should stop what she described as political theatrics and instead focus on his responsibilities as an elected representative.
She said that while party leaders and members were working to strengthen public confidence, Wong Chen had chosen to create one controversy after another.
“Subang voters did not elect a political content creator. They elected a Member of Parliament who is supposed to focus on solving the people’s problems.
“No one is being punished for having friends or attending public events. The real question is whether an elected representative remains committed to the mandate, struggle and political platform that brought him into office,” she said in a statement today.
Sivamalar said Wong Chen won the Subang parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15) with a majority of 115,074 votes under the Keadilan and Pakatan Harapan banner, stressing that the victory was not his alone.
She said the win was built on the sacrifices of thousands of party members, volunteers and supporters who worked tirelessly to secure the landslide victory.
“Do not attempt to create the perception that the mandate came solely from his personal popularity,” she said.
Sivamalar also questioned Wong Chen’s actions, claiming that he had been actively promoting and lending legitimacy to a political movement that was building an alternative platform to the very party he represents.
She said the issue was no longer about freedom of speech or the right to maintain friendships, but rather about political clarity, integrity towards the voters’ mandate and loyalty to the party’s struggle.
“No political party in the world can function properly if its leaders are free to campaign for another political platform while continuing to enjoy positions obtained through their original party,” she said.
She added that Wong Chen had repeatedly portrayed himself as a victim of persecution when, in reality, no one had forced him to attend events organised by other political movements or publicly challenge his own party.
“All the controversies we see today are the result of his own political choices. Do not create a problem and then complain about being victimised when people begin to question your actions,” she said.
Sivamalar urged Wong Chen to be transparent if he no longer believed in Keadilan’s struggle.
“If Wong Chen no longer believes in Keadilan, then say so openly. He cannot have it both ways.
“Subang voters are politically mature and capable of judging for themselves who is genuinely focused on serving the people and who is more interested in creating endless political polemics,” she said. -MalayaDailyToday
