KLANG – Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery at a goldsmith shop along Jalan Tengku Kelana here after several helmeted men armed with sledgehammers and an object resembling a pistol targeted the premises yesterday.
The incident occurred at about 10.30am on Aug 20, with CCTV footage showing two men attempting to smash a glass display case with sledgehammers, but failing to break it.
Another man was seen holding an object resembling a pistol, while the group later fled and joined several others waiting outside on motorcycles.
Klang Selatan deputy district police chief Supt Kamalariffin Aman Shah said the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) had opened an investigation paper into the incident.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for causing hurt during an attempted gang robbery, as well as Section 4 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 for displaying a firearm during the attempted robbery.
Kamalariffin urged anyone with information on the incident to come forward and assist the police investigation.

The goldsmith shop is located about 300 metres from the Klang Selatan district police station.
