KUALA LUMPUR – Parti Wawasan Negara (WAWASAN) has confirmed it will not contest the upcoming Johor state election, opting instead to focus its efforts on the Negeri Sembilan state polls following the completion of the party’s rebranding exercise.
Its president, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, said the decision was made in the interest of strengthening opposition unity and avoiding multi-cornered contests that could split voters’ support.
He said WAWASAN would fully back the candidates selected by Perikatan Nasional (PN) to contest in Johor.
“We will support the line-up of candidates whom we believe are capable of leading Johor and managing the state’s future effectively.
“I want to see unity among all opposition parties. We must not allow divisions to weaken us. If we truly want to remain united, we must first listen to the voice of the people,” he told reporters during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur on Today.
Hamzah described Johor as one of Malaysia’s most strategic states, saying its economic importance made it crucial for voters to elect capable leaders who could safeguard the state’s long-term development.
“Johor is a large and important state. For the sake of its people, the candidates chosen must be individuals who are able to continue the struggle for the state’s future.
“God willing, Johor will become one of the key pillars driving Malaysia’s economic growth in the years ahead,” he said.
Meanwhile, Hamzah confirmed that WAWASAN would field candidates in the Negeri Sembilan state election once the party’s rebranding process is finalised.
“That is certain. We will contest in the Negeri Sembilan state election,” he said when responding to questions from the media. -MalayaDailyToday
