KUALA LUMPUR – The Vatican has officially confirmed that the late Pope Francis died due to a stroke, followed by a coma and irreversible cardiocirculatory collapse.
According to Vatican News, the cause of death was detailed in a medical report released on Monday evening by Dr. Andrea Arcangeli, Director of the Directorate of Health and Hygiene of the Vatican City State. The report was issued through the Holy See Press Office.
Dr. Arcangeli stated that the Pope’s death was formally confirmed through electrocardiographic thanatography, a medical method used to ascertain death via cardiac electrical activity.
“I hereby declare that the causes of death, to the best of my knowledge and judgment, are as stated above,” wrote Dr. Arcangeli in the certification.
The report further revealed that the 88-year-old pontiff had been suffering from multiple chronic health issues in recent years, including acute respiratory failure due to multimicrobial bilateral pneumonia, multiple bronchiectases (a condition affecting the lungs), high blood pressure, and Type II diabetes.
Pope Francis, who served as the 266th Bishop of Rome and leader of the Catholic Church, passed away on Easter Monday morning, 21 April, at the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta residence. His passing marked the end of a papacy noted for humility, social justice advocacy, and efforts to reform the Church. -MalayaDailyToday
