PUTRAJAYA – The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) must move beyond its comfort zone as Malaysia prepares for Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026), says Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.
Delivering his mandate to ministry staff today, he said the coming year demands stronger commitment, faster execution and more strategic planning.
“This is not an ordinary year. VM2026 requires us to work harder, faster and smarter. The challenges ahead are significant, and we cannot afford complacency,” he said.
Tiong stressed that tourism development must not be seasonal or limited to a single campaign year.
“VM2026 is a catalyst, but our responsibility goes far beyond 2026. What we build today must form a strong foundation for sustainable tourism growth in the years ahead,” he said.
He emphasised that cultural tourism must remain a core strength for Malaysia, highlighting the country’s heritage, arts, traditions and diversity as strategic assets.
“These are not supporting elements — they are what differentiate Malaysia on the global tourism stage and create meaningful visitor experiences,” he said.
The minister called for more aggressive, creative and high-impact promotion efforts to position Malaysia internationally.

“The world will not recognise Malaysia if we do not actively bring forward new narratives, introduce new products and showcase our true uniqueness — from our culture and diversity to our people,” he said.
Tiong also instructed overseas offices, agencies and departments under MOTAC to align closely, communicate clearly and act with urgency.
“No more work without timelines, no more excuses without solutions. If there are problems, discuss them. If there are obstacles, find solutions together,” he said.
Describing MOTAC as the face of Malaysia to the world, he said the ministry’s role extends beyond administration to nation branding.
“I am confident that if we stand united, embrace change and commit fully, Malaysia can go further. Visit Malaysia 2026 is a shared responsibility,” he added. -MalayaDailyToday
