SEREMBAN – UMNO Seremban Division Deputy Chief and Lenggeng State Assemblyman, who also serves as Deputy Speaker of the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly, Datuk Mohd Asna Amin has urged authorities to act decisively against the individual accused of desecrating the Quran, warning that such behaviour must not be tolerated.
Describing the act as extreme and offensive, he said it was particularly distressing that it allegedly occurred during the holy month of Ramadan, when Muslims are observing fasting and heightened spiritual reflection.
“This is not a trivial matter. The act of stepping on the Quran is deeply insulting and unacceptable.
“The person responsible must be prosecuted and face stern punishment. There can be no compromise,” he said in a statement.
Asna added that the act goes beyond insulting the holy book of Islam, as it also touches on the position of the Malay Rulers, who are constitutionally recognised as Heads of the Islamic faith in their respective states.
He called on the police to conduct a thorough investigation and take firm legal action, stressing that any provocation involving race, religion and royalty (3R) carries serious implications for national stability.
“The deliberate display of such an image is alarming. It risks inflaming racial tensions and deeply hurts the sentiments of Muslims in this country,” he said.
While condemning the act, Asna expressed confidence that it does not reflect the views of any non-Muslim community in Malaysia.
“No right-thinking person would commit such a disgraceful act. We must not allow the actions of one individual to define entire communities,” he said.
He cautioned that overplaying sensitive issues could have far-reaching consequences, particularly when public emotions are stirred.
Malaysia’s long-standing record of peaceful coexistence among people of different faiths and backgrounds, he said, should not be jeopardised by reckless provocation.
“Our diversity has never stopped us from living side by side in harmony. That unity must be protected at all costs,” he added. -MalayaDailyToday
