KUALA LUMPUR – The fever for Coolie, the latest action-thriller from Tamil cinema superstar Rajinikanth, is reaching unprecedented heights in Malaysia ahead of its release on 14 August.
Yet, in a move that has left fans shocked, Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) the largest cinema chain in the country is still not listing the film on its official platforms.
Checks by MalayaDailyToday as of the date of this article confirm there is no sign of Coolie on GSC’s website or app.
Some media reported the absence has prompted a flurry of comments from moviegoers on GSC’s social media pages, with many openly questioning why the film is not being screened.
Meanwhile, Coolie’s momentum outside of GSC has been nothing short of phenomenal. According to reports, advance ticket sales in Malaysia have already exceeded 55,000 tickets across chains like TGV, MBO, LFS, and various independent cinemas.

Some First Day First Show (FDFS) screenings have sold out within hours of bookings opening.
Early box office data indicates that as of 4 August, pre-sales had already generated around RM230,000 from roughly 8,000 tickets and that figure has been climbing rapidly each day.

The film’s Malaysian distributor, Malik Streams Corporation, has launched an aggressive promotional campaign, including a record breaking hot-air balloon launch at Dataran Merdeka on 3 August the largest such stunt ever for a Tamil movie in the country.

The company has set an ambitious target of up to RM60 million at the Malaysian box office, banking on Rajinikanth’s immense cross-cultural appeal among Indian, Malay, and Chinese audiences.
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie is already being hailed as one of Kollywood’s biggest global releases of the year, blending Rajinikanth’s unmatched star power with high-octane action and a star-studded cast. Its absence from GSC’s line-up marks the first time in recent memory that a Tamil film of this scale has bypassed the nation’s largest cinema operator.
With just days to go before its premiere, fans are urging GSC to reverse its decision and join the excitement. “Ignoring Coolie would mean missing out on a historic moment for Tamil cinema in Malaysia,” one fan wrote online.

For now, the spotlight remains firmly on cinemas that have embraced the film and on the fans whose overwhelming support has already turned Coolie into a pre-release box office phenomenon. -MalayaDailyToday
