PUTRAJAYA – A total of 600 body cameras will be distributed to officers of the Immigration Department beginning May 28 as part of the government’s commitment to enhance integrity and transparency within enforcement agencies, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced today.
Speaking during the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration at the Kompleks Setia Perkasa, Saifuddin revealed that the initiative was a direct directive from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who has expressed deep concern over the issue of integrity in enforcement bodies.
“The Prime Minister is highly concerned about the integrity of enforcement officers. He personally contacted the Director-General of Immigration, Datuk Zakaria Shaaban, and urged for the immediate implementation of the body camera initiative,” Saifuddin said.
Following the instruction, Saifuddin directed the ministry’s Secretary-General, Datuk Awang Alik Jeman, to expedite the procurement process to ensure the swift distribution of the cameras.
“We are expecting approximately 600 units of body cameras to be delivered no later than May 28,” he confirmed.
The implementation of body cameras is seen as part of a broader government effort to strengthen transparency and accountability among front-line enforcement personnel, particularly in addressing misconduct that could tarnish the image of the civil service.
The move aligns with the government’s reform agenda to restore public confidence in enforcement institutions and reduce opportunities for abuse of power, bribery, or misconduct during on-the-ground operations. -MalayaDailyDaily
