SUBANG JAYA – In a heartfelt show of solidarity, Her Highness Dato’ Seri DiRaja Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz binti Almarhum Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, the Tunku Temenggong of Kedah and National Chairperson of the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC), visited families displaced by the recent gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights.
During her visit to the Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) at Masjid Putra Heights, Her Highness met with evacuees, offering words of comfort and support while witnessing first-hand the humanitarian response carried out by MRC volunteers.
“This is not just about delivering aid — it’s about standing with the community in their darkest hour. Our volunteers are here not only with supplies but with hope and compassion,” said Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz, underscoring MRC’s commitment to both immediate and long-term disaster response.

The fire, which broke out earlier this week, forced dozens of families from their homes and led to several injuries. In response, MRC quickly mobilised its emergency teams, deploying over 30 trained volunteers from its Selangor and Kuala Lumpur chapters. These responders were among the first on the ground, administering first aid to burn victims and coordinating hospital transfers for the severely injured.
MRC’s presence was felt across three key evacuation sites: the multipurpose hall of Masjid Putra Heights, Dewan Camellia Putra Heights, and the Sri Mahamariamman Temple. At each location, volunteers assisted in shelter operations and provided vital humanitarian support.

Emergency relief items including ready-to-eat meals, food packs, hygiene kits, sleeping mats and blankets were distributed to those affected. Basic health screenings were also conducted, particularly targeting elderly residents and children. In addition, psychological first aid and psychosocial support were made available to individuals dealing with trauma and emotional distress.

The operation was carried out in close coordination with multiple government agencies including the Department of Social Welfare (JKM), Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Civil Defence Force (APM), and various non-governmental organisations — ensuring a well-coordinated response across all sectors.
As recovery efforts continue, MRC has pledged to remain by the community’s side for the long haul.
“Our work does not end with the fire being extinguished. We will stay to support families through the long process of rebuilding their lives,” said Her Highness.

The Malaysian Red Crescent is also calling on the public, corporate partners and community organisations to contribute towards its ongoing relief and recovery efforts.
