ALOR SETAR – A man suspected of brutally assaulting his wife and causing her to suffer a miscarriage has been apprehended by police. Investigations into the suspect, who was arrested in Ambangan Heights, Sungai Petani last Thursday, have revealed a disturbing history involving nine marriages and 11 children.
Kedah Police Chief, Adzli Abu Shah, disclosed that the suspect consistently targeted women working in the civil service across several states. To date, the suspect is believed to still be married to three women, while the remaining six are ex-wives.
Details of the Assault
The case came to light after the victim’s brother filed an initial report. The victim later filed her own report on April 26 after suffering severe physical pain.
Medical examinations revealed the extent of the violence:
- Severe Injuries: Fractures to both the left and right ribs, as well as spinal injuries.
- Miscarriage: The physical trauma resulted in the loss of her pregnancy.
- Weapons Used: The victim alleged she was repeatedly struck with various objects, including iron rods, clothes hangers, hose pipes, curtain rods, and broomsticks.
A History of Violence
The suspect is no stranger to the legal system. He was previously linked to a domestic violence case in Johor Bahru, where he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. However, he is currently out on a RM7,000 court bail pending an appeal.
A background check further revealed:
- Four Prior Records: Previous cases involving assault and threats against former wives and girlfriends.
- Concealment of Birth: An ongoing 2018 court case regarding the concealment of a birth.
- Unregistered Marriage: The suspect’s latest marriage to the victim allegedly took place in Thailand and has not been registered in Malaysia.
The Arrest
Following the incident, two special police teams were formed to track the suspect. He was eventually located and arrested at a homestay in Alor Setar at 4:45 PM yesterday. During the raid, police seized four mobile phones and a Mercedes-Benz.
While the suspect tested negative for drugs, his history of domestic patterns has prompted a deep investigation. The case is currently being investigated under Sections 323 and 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means. -MalayaDailyToday
