KUALA LUMPUR – Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp) is working with the Ministry of Health (MOH) to streamline and facilitate the application process under the Returning Expert Programme (REP) for Malaysian medical and healthcare professionals working overseas.
TalentCorp said the collaboration aims to improve coordination among relevant agencies and ensure applications are processed more efficiently while maintaining professional requirements and regulatory standards.
The agency said it would also continue working with the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) and the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) to facilitate the return of Malaysians seeking to contribute their expertise and experience to the country.
The move follows Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim‘s directive for the government to review the process for Malaysians overseas who wish to return and serve the country, including medical and healthcare professionals.
“For medical professionals applying under the REP, the return process also involves meeting professional registration requirements to practise in Malaysia, including registration with the MMC and the National Specialist Register (NSR), where applicable.” said in a statement today.
TalentCorp said complete REP applications from medical and healthcare professionals are currently processed within about 60 working days, subject to the schedule of the relevant committee meetings.
Applications in the category also undergo additional technical assessment through the Joint Working Committee for Healthcare Talent (JWC-HT), comprising TalentCorp, MOH, MMC and relevant healthcare regulatory and professional bodies.
TalentCorp said applications and supporting documents would be reviewed to ensure that all information submitted is complete and accurate before being referred for assessment and decision.
Where MMC or NSR registration is still in progress, applications that meet other REP requirements may continue to be assessed and considered for conditional approval.
However, full approval and REP benefits will only be granted once the relevant MMC and NSR registration requirements have been completed and proof of registration submitted.
TalentCorp said it had engaged with MOH to review the REP process for medical and healthcare professionals, including a session with the MOH Secretary-General on June 22.
A meeting with members of the JWC-HT was also scheduled for Aug 21 to further strengthen coordination among the relevant agencies and professional bodies. -MalayaDailyToday
