KUALA LUMPUR – Fadhlina Sidek has assured that the Education Ministry will not compromise on issues involving the safety and wellbeing of students following allegations of sexual harassment involving a Year Six pupil at a primary school in Johor.
Fadhlina stressed that the ministry is treating the matter seriously and that immediate action had been taken against the teacher involved pending investigations.
She said the ministry maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of sexual misconduct or abuse involving students, adding that schools must remain safe spaces for children.
“KPM does not compromise on sexual harassment cases,” she said while confirming that police are currently investigating the matter.
The case gained public attention after allegations involving a teacher and a female Year Six pupil at a school in Masai went viral on social media.
Former Mathematics teacher Mohd Fadli Mohamed Salleh claimed the school’s headmaster had lodged two police reports urging the Pasir Gudang District Education Office (PPD) to take firm action against the 28-year-old teacher.
According to him, the teacher was temporarily transferred to the PPD for three months but was allegedly allowed to return to teaching duties when the new school session began earlier this year.
The allegations sparked concern among parents and the public, with many questioning the handling of the case and whether sufficient preventive measures had been taken to protect students.
Fadhlina’s swift response reflects the ministry’s firm stand that student safety, dignity and emotional wellbeing cannot be compromised under any circumstances.
She also stressed that the ministry would continue cooperating fully with the authorities while ensuring appropriate action is taken based on the outcome of investigations. -MalayaDailyToday
