KUALA LUMPUR – Commuters and residents across most of Malaysia are advised to brace for a wet and stormy evening as the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued a severe weather warning lasting until 9:00 PM tonight.
A combination of heavy rain, lightning strikes, and strong winds is expected to hit multiple districts across nine states, alongside the federal territory of Labuan, and the entire northern region.
According to the latest advisory, northern residents will experience widespread downpours, with the whole of Perlis, Kedah, and Penang placed under warning.
In Peninsular Malaysia, the storm is projected to impact specific districts including Kerian, Hulu Perak, and Kinta in Perak; Tumpat, Kota Bharu, and Bachok in Kelantan; and Marang in Terengganu.
Further south, communities in Negeri Sembilan (Kuala Pilah, Jempol, Tampin), Melaka (Alor Gajah, Jasin), and Johor (Mersing, Kota Tinggi, Johor Bahru) are also urged to prepare for sudden flash floods or traffic delays during the evening rush hour.
East Malaysia will not be spared either, with adverse weather forecasted for parts of Sarawak including Kapit, Belaga, Miri, and Limbang, as well as several areas in Sabah, notably the West Coast, Sandakan, and Kudat.
The sudden weather update has rapidly gained traction on local community Facebook pages and traffic update groups. Many digital users are actively sharing localized flood warnings, advising fellow drivers to avoid low-lying roads and to exercise extreme caution on slick highways tonight.
MetMalaysia has strongly advised the public to postpone outdoor activities and secure loose items around their homes to mitigate risks from strong wind gusts.
Residents are encouraged to keep a close eye on live radar updates via MetMalaysia’s official digital channels to ensure family safety as the storm develops. -MalayaDailyToday
