KUALA LUMPUR – Devastating flash floods and mudslides along the Nepal-China border have claimed 1,420 lives, with 5,649 individuals still reported missing across both nations, according to updated official figures reported by Anadolu Agency (AA).
Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority confirmed Thursday that the domestic death toll rose to 1,377, while 5,130 people remain missing as search and rescue operations intensify in affected zones.
In southwestern China’s Xizang Autonomous Region (Tibet), local authorities reported that the casualty figures stood firm at 43 fatalities and 519 individuals missing.
Nepalese emergency officials confirmed that rescue teams have safely evacuated 13,656 people, while 333 victims are currently receiving medical treatment across 19 hospitals, with another 256 patients discharged.
To expedite relief operations, the Nepalese government deployed more than 21,000 security personnel, comprising 8,885 members of the Nepalese Army, 7,975 police officers, and 4,203 Armed Police Force personnel.
Aviation support has also been mobilized heavily, with the Nepalese Army conducting 1,348 helicopter sorties alongside 272 flights by the Armed Police Force to deliver aid and extract survivors from isolated regions. -MalayaDailyToday
