KUALA TERENGGANU – The Kuala Terengganu Sessions Court has dismissed a defamation lawsuit filed by an individual against popular real estate figure, Datuk Mohamad Azlan Abdullah, regarding a Facebook post made around 2021.
Sessions Court Judge Norashima Khalid dismissed the plaintiff, Shahruldi Mahafiz Ramli’s lawsuit after finding that the plaintiff failed to prove defamation against Mohamad Azlan, who was the defendant.
Norashima also rejected the plaintiff’s injunction request to prevent the defendant or his representatives from making similar statements, whether in writing or verbally.
Mohamad Azlan’s lawyer, Sureshmurti Ramani, revealed that the court found that the post made by his client did not contain defamatory elements as alleged by the plaintiff.
“The court found that the plaintiff failed to prove any elements of defamation as alleged by our client. The judge also dismissed the case with costs and allowed an appeal within 14 days,” he said today.
In the proceedings, Mohamad Azlan was also represented by Mohamed Baharudeen Mohamed Ariff, Datuk Abu Bakar Isa Ramat, and Aina Dalila Daman Huri from the law firm Hafarizam Wan & Aisha Mubarak (HWAM).
For context, Shahruldi, who is the biological son of Mohamad Azlan’s adoptive father, previously alleged that the defendant made defamatory statements in three Facebook posts three years ago.
Among the claims made in those posts were that Shahruldi was an ungrateful child, irresponsible, and neglected his biological father while he was still alive.
Mohamad Azlan first made his name after rising out of poverty, having once worked as a garbage collector before gradually entering the real estate industry.
Meanwhile, Mohamad Azlan expressed his happiness at obtaining justice for himself through the legal system.
He explained that he has often been the target of slander by “enemies” who disliked his success from the beginning.
“For me, the truth is very important because these accusations are serious. The challenges to rise to this level required significant sacrifices, and I have often been targeted by some, sometimes even by people who were once close to us.
“Regardless, I prefer to resolve any issue through legal channels. The allegations that I committed defamation are baseless, and in the end, the court has affirmed my statements.
“I hope that after this, there will be no more issues like this because, in the end, we are the ones who suffer our money, our energy, our dignity, and our family. So please,” he emphasized. -MalayaDailyToday
