According to writer Sophia Ahmad from the online portal Getaran, the increase in Chinese votes in the Mahkota by-election is largely credited to Tiong King Sing’s efforts.
KUALA LUMPUR – The Unity Government’s success in retaining the Mahkota state seat with an unexpected majority is indeed extraordinary.
BN candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah defeated PN’s Mohamad Haizan Jaafar with a majority of 20,648 votes—believed to be four times higher than before.
Despite this victory, there were rumors of a boycott by Chinese voters due to issues that have hurt the community since the Unity Government’s two-year rule.
These concerns were aggravated by the halal certification controversy involving Teresa Kok and UMNO Youth Chief Datuk Dr. Muhamad Akmal Saleh.
Facing this challenge, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing decided to fully engage in the campaign, and his efforts paid off as he received a warm reception from the Chinese community.
His down-to-earth approach and reassurance that the Chinese are an “important asset” to the government helped to boost voter confidence.
During a speech with AMANAH President Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, Tiong delivered Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s assurance that the Chinese community would not be neglected under the Madani Government.
He also urged voters not to boycott, warning that such action could shift victory to PAS, which is perceived as more racially divisive.
King Sing’s message was clear: the Chinese community must stand united against extremism. His remarks resonated with voters, prompting many to rethink their position.
His continued campaigning, including dialogues and large gatherings, ultimately helped BN secure a significant win in Mahkota, showing the effectiveness of his dedication.
This victory is also a triumph for the Unity Government led by Anwar. -MalayaDailyToday
