SHAH ALAM – Bersatu’s Associate Wing is intensifying its efforts in Selangor as the party looks to broaden its appeal among non-Malay voters ahead of the 16th General Election (GE16).
Its chief, Datuk Sri Sanjeevan Ramakrishnan said the wing’s presence at the Selangor Bersatu Convention reflects a more deliberate and structured role in strengthening the party’s outreach.
He said Selangor, as the country’s most developed and densely populated state, mirrors Malaysia’s increasingly complex political landscape, shaped by diversity, urbanisation and a more informed electorate.
“This is not symbolic. The Associate Wing is part of a wider effort to expand participation and build genuine engagement among non-Malay communities,” he said.
Sanjeevan described the wing as a bridge to build confidence between Bersatu and non-Malay voters, particularly in a state where political competition remains intense.
He said the focus is not just on representation but on ensuring these communities play a meaningful role in shaping policy direction and governance.
According to him, voters in Selangor are becoming more discerning, with greater emphasis placed on policy clarity, credibility and stability rather than rhetoric.
“In that environment, we are able to communicate the party’s message in a way that is more grounded and aligned with the realities of a plural society,” he added.
He said the wing is also focusing on younger voters and fence-sitters who are looking for a more moderate and solutions-driven political alternative.
“These voters want consistency, accountability and practical answers to issues that affect their daily lives,” he said.
Sanjeevan added that the momentum from the Selangor convention signals Bersatu’s readiness to approach GE16 with a broader and more inclusive strategy.
He said sustained engagement and a clear direction would be key to expanding the party’s support base in the state.
“With disciplined execution, the Associate Wing can play an important role in shaping voter sentiment and building momentum heading into GE16,” he said. -MalayaDailyToday
