KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Indian Skills Initiative (MISI) is making strides in strengthening the nation’s workforce by training Indian truck drivers through the Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) – Dangerous Goods (DG) Integrated Truck Driver Training Program.
The three-day training program, held in Klang, Selangor, was spearheaded by the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) in collaboration with the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp). The initiative received an overwhelming response in a short period, highlighting the high demand for specialized logistics training.
In a statement to Malaya Daily Today, HRD Corp emphasized that the strong participation underscores the success of MISI’s vision and mission in equipping the workforce with high-demand skills in logistics.
Government Commitment to Skill Development
The training program was officiated by P. Prabakaran, Chairman of the Indian Community Transformation Unit (MITRA) Special Task Force Committee. His presence reinforced the government’s commitment to upskilling workers and empowering the Indian community with specialized competencies.
HRD Corp highlighted that certification in Dangerous Goods (DG) transportation not only ensures higher wages for truck drivers but also provides better job security.
“This intensive three-day training enhances participants’ competitiveness in the job market.
“Graduates from this program are not only equipped to enter the entrepreneurial sector but are also eligible for management-level positions.
“Additionally, this initiative supports Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) compliance and adheres to international safety standards, ensuring its relevance to industry needs,” the statement added.
MISI: Paving the Way for Future-Ready Skills
Prabakaran emphasized that the DG training program marks another significant milestone in equipping truck drivers with the necessary certifications and expertise to advance their careers.
Under KESUMA and HRD Corp’s leadership, MISI has received over 3,000 applications for training in high-demand sectors, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and smart agriculture—aligning with future industry needs.
