KUALA LUMPUR – National Mount Everest climber Datuk Muhamad Muqharabbin Mokhtarrudin has defended his winning RM16,500 bid for PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s walking stick, stating the purchase was made as a lifelong reminder of human mortality rather than out of blind fanaticism.
Muqharabbin, who serves as a PAS Lembah Pantai committee member, clarified that owning the kemuning wood walking stick: engraved with the initials “TGHH” (Tuan Guru Haji Hadi), serves as a symbolic reflection that physical strength and human vigor are temporary.
“Last night was a meaningful moment to contribute to the party while being close to a spiritual guide (murabbi). Most importantly, this walking stick is a stern reminder that one day we will grow old and rely on a cane; thus, we must use our remaining youth and energy to serve while we still can,” he wrote in a social media post.
Muqharabbin dismissed claims of creature worship or obsessive devotion, emphasizing that the highest reverence is reserved solely for the Prophet Muhammad.
Regarding the RM16,500 winning bid, he described the figure as a personal symbolic commitment to continuously uphold the core principles of Islam, faith (iman), and virtue (ihsan).
The auction, which opened with a starting price of RM2,500, was conducted during the Malacca PAS State Charity Dinner to raise campaign funds ahead of the state election. -MalayaDailyToday
