KUALA LUMPUR – From the bustling metropolises to the quietest corners of rural Malaysia, the country pulses with the tireless effort of its workers: often unnoticed, yet always essential.
That was the heartfelt message from Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing in his 2025 Labour Day address, which paid tribute to the nation’s workforce as the unshakable foundation of Malaysia’s prosperity and peace.
“The true meaning of Labour Day is to honor those who quietly struggle every single day for our collective progress,” Tiong said. “Their dedication and sacrifice are the very roots of the stability we enjoy today.”
In his message, Tiong called on all Malaysians, from employers to employees, to cultivate a work environment that thrives on mutual respect and shared purpose. “We must nurture harmonious workplaces where both sides uplift each other, not just economically, but in values and dignity,” he emphasized.
As industries evolve with artificial intelligence and automation, the minister, who also leads the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), warned against overlooking the enduring role of human labor.
“Technology may accelerate, but it cannot replace the resilience, judgment, and irreplaceable human values that workers bring to the table,” he said. “I urge our workforce to remain dynamic to upskill, embrace technological changes, and stay adaptable.”
Tiong’s Labour Day message didn’t just serve as an annual formality; it struck a deeper chord, one of recognition for the silent builders of Malaysia’s progress, often too humble to seek the spotlight.
“As we navigate the future, let us never forget who carried us this far,” he added. “To every worker, you are the backbone of Malaysia. Happy Labour Day.” -MalayaDailyToday
