KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia has set its sights firmly on becoming a top-tier global travel destination with a landmark strategic partnership inked between Tourism Malaysia and international airline giant Emirates; a move that comes as part of a broader push ahead of the highly anticipated Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign.
Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, who witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) in Dubai, hailed the partnership as a timely and powerful step toward capturing the lucrative Arab travel market and elevating Malaysia’s presence on the global tourism stage.

“I was deeply honoured to witness this collaboration between Tourism Malaysia and Emirates, which aligns perfectly with our national tourism goals. This is more than just a marketing alliance: it’s a global gateway to showcasing the best of Malaysia’s cultural diversity and natural beauty,” said Tiong.
The MoU, signed by Emirates’ Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations (East), Mr. Orhan Abbas, and Tourism Malaysia Director-General Datuk Manoharan Periasamy, outlines a joint commitment to marketing initiatives that will amplify Malaysia’s international branding and boost visitor arrivals from key markets.
As part of the agreement, Emirates will organise familiarisation trips to Malaysia for international media and travel trade professionals, giving firsthand exposure to the country’s vibrant cultural tapestry, lush landscapes, and diverse culinary experiences. The airline’s expansive global network is expected to play a critical role in drawing a new wave of visitors eager for authentic “Malaysia Truly Asia” experiences.

“This collaboration is not only timely but crucial as we aim to tap into the Arab market more aggressively,” Tiong remarked, noting that last year alone, Malaysia welcomed 38 million visitors. With the strong backing of Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the government has now set an ambitious target of 45 million visitor arrivals in 2025; a milestone Tiong believes is well within reach.
“Our latest tourism data shows promising momentum. With this Emirates partnership, we’re accelerating in the right direction,” he added confidently.
With Visit Malaysia 2026 on the horizon, Malaysia is positioning itself as a must-visit destination by leveraging international cooperation, digital innovation, and cultural diplomacy. Tiong emphasized that the nation is ready to offer global visitors a journey like no other: one enriched by Malaysia’s harmonious multiculturalism and breathtaking biodiversity.
“In essence, we’re inviting the world to experience a unique voyage through Malaysia’s soul, where heritage meets hospitality and nature meets modernity,” he concluded.
As the engines of international travel roar back to life post-pandemic, Malaysia’s tourism renaissance is gaining altitude and with Emirates on board, the sky is no longer the limit. -MalayaDailyToday
