KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that no Malaysians were involved in the recent armed attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, which left at least 26 people dead.
In a statement issued today, Wisma Putra said it is closely monitoring the situation following the deadly incident at the popular tourist destination, which is frequented by both local and international travellers, including Malaysians.
“According to the latest updates from local authorities, there are no reports of Malaysians affected by the incident,” the statement read.
“The High Commission of Malaysia in New Delhi is in close contact with leaders of Malaysian tourist groups currently in Kashmir, all of whom have confirmed that their group members are safe.”
Local media had earlier reported the attack as one of the worst assaults on civilians in recent years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the massacre, describing it as a “heinous act” and promised the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
The Ministry also advised Malaysians currently in Kashmir to remain vigilant, comply with instructions issued by local authorities, and take all necessary precautions for their safety.
Wisma Putra further recommended that all non-essential travel to Kashmir be deferred until further notice.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to work closely with local authorities and will provide updates as the situation develops,” the statement concluded.
The travel advisory comes amid heightened security operations in the region as Indian forces intensify their search for the attackers responsible for the mass shooting in Pahalgam. -MalayaDailyToday
