JOHOR BAHRU – Former Education Minister Dr. Maszlee Malik has secured his position as the Simpang Renggam Division Chief for Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), defeating two contenders in the party’s internal election for the 2025–2028 term.
Maszlee, who previously served as Member of Parliament for Simpang Renggam, garnered 125 votes, outpacing his challengers Wong Yung Chin, who received 109 votes, and Yusof Rahman, who obtained 82 votes.
According to official data on the PKR 2025 election website, a total of 318 ballots were cast out of 406 eligible members in the division.
The results were officially certified by the Chairperson of the Party Election Committee (JPP), Datuk Seri Dr. Zaliha Mustafa.
Maszlee, who is also a member of PKR’s Central Leadership Council (MPP), had announced on March 11 that he would contest the same position in the party’s election scheduled for May.
With this victory, Maszlee reinforces his influence within the party and the Simpang Renggam division, maintaining a leadership role as PKR prepares for its next political chapter. -MalayaDailyToday
