PYONGYANG – North Korea said that its military conducted a `joint firepower attack drill’ involving long-range artillery and missile units.
The launch came a day after the United States, South Korea and Japan concluded joint military exercises.
State news agency KCNA said the drill was held on Saturday and involved selected subunits from five artillery and missile units of the Korean People’s Army (KPA).
The `joint firepower attack drill’ involved new combat systems’ such as various kind of attack drones, tactical cruise missiles, large-caliber thermal-pressure multiple rocket launchers and tactical ballistic missiles.
All strike weapon systems demonstrated the huge destructive power of concentrated fire during the drill, ensuring the unity and simultaneity of the firepower attacks, it said
KPA Marshal Pak Jong Chon, vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission of the ruling Workers’ Party, and Artillery Bureau Director Maj Gen Yu Chang Son supervised the exercise.
KCNA claimed all strike systems hit their targets with `100 percent hit accuracy’, demonstrating their ability to conduct simultaneous concentrated attacks.
KCNA’s report came two days after the launch, believed to be the 13th known ballistic missile launch event this year. -MalayaDailyToday
