KUALA LUMPUR – About 82% of levies collected from employers by the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) have been utilised this year.
HRD Corp CEO, Datuk Wira Shahul Dawood said a portion of the levies were used to fund several development programmes, including the National Training Week in June and the National Human Capital Conference & Exhibition (NHCCE) 2024, which ends today.
“We can proudly say that our levy utilisation for the year 2024 is 82%. This is simply because every employer believes that training is important,” he said at the NHCCE’s closing ceremony at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre today.
Shahul said HRD Corp was committed to growing its levy collection, which would be used to hold training sessions to advance Malaysia’s human capital development.
“We want to make sure that our levies are spent wisely and effectively. We need to make sure that they have been spent on developing human capital, knowledge sharing and learning from the best practices,” he said.
HRD Corp collected a record-breaking RM2.2 billion in levies last year, compared with RM1.82 billion in 2022.
NHCCE, themed “Humanising Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the Future Workforce” featured 36 speakers who explored at length the growth of Al and its impact on the labour market in the near future.
Shahul praised the speakers for championing the call to embrace and partner with Al tools, rather than being fearful of the technology.
“Al is simply nothing without humans humanising it. This topic is an especially important one that Malaysians must explore in order for the country to progress to the next level,” he said. -MalayaDailyToday
