KUALA LUMPUR – Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has called for greater public cooperation in post-flood cleanup efforts, emphasizing the importance of proper waste disposal to support volunteer teams.
“I fully understand that post-flood cleanup is not an easy task. Volunteer teams from the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), the Zong Ho Friendship Association, and other groups have been working tirelessly to clean affected areas and transport waste to designated disposal sites,” he said.
However, Tiong urged residents to be more mindful in handling waste. “I call on everyone to cooperate by placing all waste at designated collection points or trash bins in an orderly manner. This will prevent volunteers from having to clean the same areas repeatedly.”
He also highlighted that volunteers are dedicating their time and energy selflessly, often providing essential equipment such as trucks and excavators on their own or through coordinated efforts.
“Therefore, I urge everyone to dispose of waste at designated collection points or bins instead of leaving it in their yards. Heavy vehicles cannot access some residential areas, so please do not leave trash in your yards. This will help volunteers manage waste more efficiently,” he stressed.
Tiong also reminded residents that volunteer cleanup efforts will conclude this week. “I want to emphasize that volunteer cleanup operations will end within the week. Residents are urged to dispose of all waste at the designated sites in the next few days. After this period, waste disposal will be handled by the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA), which may result in slower waste collection.”
He urged the public to take note of this and cooperate accordingly. -MalayaDailyToday
