Kuala Lumpur – The Minister of Human Resources, Yang Berhormat Steven Sim Chee Keong, today announced the dates of the National Training Week (NTW) 2024 in an event at the Hilton Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The launch was also witnessed by Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Sri Khairul Dzaimee bin Daud, the newly minted Secretary General of the Ministry of Human Resources and Datuk Dr. Syed Hussain Syed Husman, the President of Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF).
Organised by HRD Corp under the auspices of the Ministry of Human Resources, NTW is a full week of nationwide training events and activities that bring together organisations and individuals from various backgrounds and industries to experience a multitude of learning and development opportunities. Trainings are offered by Malaysians and for Malaysians for free in multiple locations and through various learning modes and platforms.
NTW 2024, which will be held between 24 to 30 June 2024, is the continuation of the highly successful NTW 2023. Held in May last year, the inaugural NTW exceeded almost all initial expectations by providing more than 21,000 free training courses to more than 129,000 Malaysians and recording over 503,000 training hours.
This year, the Ministry of Human Resources and HRD Corp will take the lead in galvanising the local human capital development scene again by spearheading the NTW 2024. Whilst retaining the same aim of promoting lifelong learning among Malaysians, NTW 2024 has set a bigger target of 150,000 enrolments across the country, with a greater focus on free training programmes across five (5) pillars: life skills, future skills, creativity and innovation, financial, and sustainable development. The pillars were selected based on Malaysia’s talent and industry needs.
During his speech, YB Steven Sim said: “Every year, HRD Corp serves 82,000 SMEs out of 1.2million. Therefore, for a week, we want to benefit the other SMEs as well. The inaugural National Training Week last year trained over 129,000 Malaysians across various training courses and a record of over 503,000 cumulative training hours.”
The Minister added that NTW 2024 will aim higher with at least 150,000 enrollments throughout the week. At the same time, he also expressed hope that NTW will focus heavily on the quality of training provided, setting a gold standard for our training industry.
Speaking at the same event, HRD Corp’s Chief Executive said, “When we introduced NTW last year, we had one main goal in mind; to provide access to free learning and development opportunities to all Malaysians, regardless of their background, age, skills, experience or knowledge. I am pleased to note that we managed to achieve this thanks to the support, commitment and dedication of our partners and collaborators from government ministries, agencies, academic institutions, community organisations, registered employers, trainers, training providers and more. The Minister and HRD Corp’s Chief Executive also presented certificates of appreciation to 15 Top Satellite Event Partners and six Virtual Learning Partners of NTW 2023*. The certificates were a sign of acknowledgement for active partners who contributed to making NTW 2023 a success.
