PETALING JAYA – India Gate continues to set the standard for Indian cuisine in Malaysia with the grand opening of its 10th outlet in New Town, Petaling Jaya, on September 13.
The event drew a massive crowd, but the real spectacle occurred when the emcee made an announcement that surprised everyone: “Apologies to those who have been waiting for over two hours – we’ve run out of biryani!”
This came despite the fact that over 300 biryani enthusiasts were still lining up. Initially, 1,000 packs of biryani were supposed to be given out for free, but the sheer demand saw more than 1,500 distributed. This overwhelming response demonstrates how India Gate’s signature biryani has captured the hearts and appetites of many.
But India Gate is more than just a restaurant; it’s a cultural experience, offering a unique glimpse into Indian traditions through its authentic dishes.
Saravanan Subramaniam, Founder and CEO of India Gate, was thrilled with the opening of the Petaling Jaya branch, citing it as a testament to the brand’s growing popularity.
“This branch holds special significance to me, marking the highs and lows of my business journey since India Gate first launched in 2017. We’ve survived challenging times, especially during the pandemic in 2021, and emerged stronger,” he said.
“Our success today is largely thanks to the unwavering support of our customers, especially for our signature dishes like biryani, along with a wide range of North and South Indian delicacies. The journey so far has been nothing short of incredible.”
Saravanan went on to highlight some of the other India Gate outlets, with the first in Cyberjaya, followed by Puchong, Bangsar, Subang Jaya, Sentul, Seremban, Semenyih, Klang, and Tropicana Golf and Country Resort. The New Town branch features an updated menu with exciting new additions while maintaining the authentic flavors that customers love.
“We’ve revamped the menu here slightly, introducing a variety of new dishes while retaining our signature culinary traditions. Plus, the elegant ambiance we’ve created is designed to attract customers from all walks of life.
“At India Gate, we never compromise on flavor. Our dishes are rich with spices, and we ensure that the restaurant’s vibrant interior reflects the beauty of the food. Every aspect, including the design, is personally crafted by me to ensure that customers feel a sense of grandeur in everything they experience,” he added.
Saravanan’s excitement didn’t end there – he shared that India Gate had recently been recognized by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for selling the most biryani and naan throughout the year.
“In total, we sold 573,619 servings of biryani and 379,485 naan, which earned us this prestigious recognition. It’s a significant achievement for our entire team and, of course, for our loyal customers,” he said.
Looking ahead, Saravanan revealed plans to expand the India Gate brand, with a new outlet set to open in Jalan Changkat, Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, in December.
“Next year, we’re targeting new branches in Johor, Penang, Ipoh, and Melaka. We’re also exploring opportunities to expand internationally, starting with Singapore.
“Our only challenge now is recruiting enough staff to keep up with growing demand. If the government could help expedite the process of bringing in workers from India, it would make a huge difference for us in the Indian cuisine sector,” he said.
India Gate’s menu is a vibrant celebration of Indian culinary diversity, with star dishes like their aromatic biryani, creamy butter chicken, and delectable tandoori, baked to perfection in a traditional clay oven. The naan and curries are also crowd favorites, served with an array of flavorful chutneys and sauces.
Vegetarians aren’t left out, with offerings like paneer tikka, dal makhani, and aloo gobi, ensuring there’s something for everyone. To round off the meal, India Gate serves a selection of traditional Indian desserts, including gulab jamun, rasmalai, and jigartandha – the perfect sweet finish to a memorable dining experience. -MalayaDailyToday
