KUALA LUMPUR – The franchise holder of Auntie Anne’s in Malaysia has fired an employee from the Midvalley shopping mall branch after a video and photos of him playing with and kissing the dough to make pretzels went viral.
According to that franchise, the involved employee was immediately dismissed following the incident that caught the attention of netizens.
“Thank you to everyone who has shown concern and shared the recent incident involving Alice Chang.”
“We would like to clarify that Alice Chang previously worked with Auntie Anne’s Malaysia, but she has been terminated immediately following this incident,” said in a statement shared on social media.
The franchise added, Auntie Anne’s Malaysia is committed to adhering to high standards of hygiene and safety for customers and staff and the food chain does not allow or tolerate any actions that compromise the established hygiene standards.
As part of proactive measures, the Midvalley branch will be temporarily closed for disinfection and thorough cleaning.
“The store will reopen once the disinfection process is complete and all necessary safety protocols are confirmed.”

Most netizens who shared videos and photos of the involved workers described the act as disgusting.
Auntie Anne’s is a chain of pretzel shops from the United States founded by Anne F. Beiler and her husband, Jonas, in 1988.
