KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had a meeting with Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir on Monday, amid the continuing constitutional uncertainty in the state.
The meeting, which lasted almost an hour, comes a day after Tuanku Muhriz revoked the appointments of all members of the Negeri Sembilan State Executive Council with immediate effect.
The decision has further intensified the situation in the state, where questions have emerged over the status of the state administration and the constitutional positions of those involved.
The revocation was announced by Datuk Azizi Mohamad Ali, Pengelola Bijaya Diraja Istana Negeri Sembilan, who said the decision followed a finding that the EXCO members had breached their oath of office.
He said the move was made under Article XXXVIII(5) of the Constitution of the State of Negeri Sembilan 1959, which provides that an EXCO member holds office at the pleasure of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar.
The EXCO members had taken their oath of office and signed their pledges of loyalty on August 7 before being appointed to the State Executive Council.
The latest development has raised concerns over the continuity of the state administration, particularly with the absence of an EXCO line-up.
Former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Zaid Ibrahim has called for Anwar and the Malay Rulers to work towards an immediate and peaceful resolution to the crisis.
Zaid also suggested that the constitutional and legal questions arising from the dispute could be referred jointly to the Federal Court for determination.
Among the issues raised are the legality of the removal of Tuanku Muhriz, the revocation of the EXCO appointments and the status of the Undang involved in the process.
The Prime Minister’s meeting with Tuanku Muhriz comes as attention remains focused on finding a constitutional pathway to resolve the unfolding impasse in Negeri Sembilan. -MalayaDailyToday
