KUALA LUMPUR – The revolution of artificial intelligence (AI) is set to create new roles that are currently rare in the job market but will become increasingly important in the future, said Human Resources Minister Steven Sim.
Sim stated that the emergence of new roles such as learning machine specialists, cloud engineers, digital transformation and adoption analysts, as well as wellness officers, will become increasingly important alongside the advancement of AI technology.
He stated that approximately 16 percent of the 97 existing job roles, particularly in the financial sector, are likely to be affected by the AI revolution, which could lead to a transfer or merger of certain positions.
“In this aspect, among those we will look at are customer service officers, investment advisors, implementation analysts, direct sales agents, and business development managers,” he said.
He said this while speaking at the launch of the National Human Capital Conference and Exhibition (NHCCE) 2024 organized by the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) here today.
Also present were the Deputy Minister of Human Resources, Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad, the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA), Azman Mohd Yusof, and the Chairman of HRD Corp, Datuk Abu Huraira Abu Yazid.
In addition, Sim also emphasized how AI has significantly accelerated various work processes within the agencies under his ministry.
He cited the example of HRD Corp, where the approval process for grant applications, which usually took up to a week, can now be reduced to just one day.
“Specifically, Al has shortened the duration of the HRD Corp grant application process from 154 hours in 2022 (covering a total of 239,776 applications) to just 19 hours in 2023.
“Another example is the Social Security Organization (Socso), which previously took three days to issue a guarantee letter (GL) to contributors needing free medical treatment in hospitals, but now it only takes an hour with the help of AI,” he said.
Meanwhile, the NHCCE, which is the main annual conference of HRD Corp, is held to promote a modern and innovative approach to human capital development with this year’s theme “Humanizing AI for the Workforce of the Future.”
This year’s conference is attended by over 300 exhibitors showcasing the latest trends in skill enhancement models, employee wellness platforms, and cutting-edge technology. -MalayaDailyToday
