PETALING JAYA – Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan has called on all parties to approach the issue involving a Hindu temple located near a hospital in Bukit Mertajam calmly and through the proper legal channels, warning against any actions that could inflame tensions.
He stressed that Malaysia is a country founded on the rule of law and no individual or group should act as though they are above the law.
According to Ramanan, the matter should not be framed purely as a religious issue, but rather as one that concerns compliance with the law and established procedures.
“In a country that upholds the rule of law, every issue must be resolved through lawful processes. No one is above the law, and we cannot allow any party to take matters into their own hands or act outside the legal framework,” he said.
Ramanan said those who are dissatisfied with any decision or development relating to the issue should utilise the appropriate mechanisms, including lodging reports with the authorities or pursuing legal remedies through the courts.
He said this when met by reporters after attending the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) iftar event with the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) here today.
The issue surrounding the temple in Bukit Mertajam has recently drawn public attention following calls by certain groups to organise a gathering in relation to the matter.
The development has raised concerns among community leaders and politicians that the situation could escalate and potentially spark religious or racial tensions if not handled carefully.
Ramanan cautioned that sensitive matters involving places of worship must be addressed responsibly, particularly in a multicultural and multireligious society like Malaysia.
He stressed that any action that could incite public anger or provoke confrontation should be avoided.
“The government will not compromise with any action that can create public tension or disrupt social harmony. All parties must act responsibly and respect the laws of the country,” he said.
Ramanan also noted that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had consistently emphasised the importance of maintaining harmony among Malaysia’s diverse communities and respecting the rule of law in resolving disputes.
He said the authorities should be allowed to carry out their responsibilities and investigations without interference.
“Malaysia’s strength lies in its diversity. Issues like this must be handled with wisdom, respect and adherence to the law so that harmony among our communities is preserved,” he added. -MalayaDailyToday
