RAMALLAH: Nearly three million Palestinians across the West Bank including Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip are eligible to cast their ballots in the upcoming legislative elections scheduled for November 28, the Central Elections Commission (CEC) announced.
Demographic data released by the CEC shows the total number of eligible voters stands at approximately 2.97 million, including 1.24 million in the Gaza Strip, 1.59 million in the West Bank, and 140,000 Palestinian holders of Jerusalem IDs in Jerusalem.
Palestine News and Info Agency (WAFA) reported the commission said the figures include citizens who meet the legal requirements for voting, namely those who will be at least 18 years old on election day.
The CEC pointed out that 1.57 million voters are under age of 38, accounting for 53 per cent of the total electorate.
CEC said a majority of eligible citizens in this age group have never voted in general elections due to a nearly two-decade gap since the last legislative polls.
According to the CEC, the gender breakdown stands virtually balanced, with women making up 49.9 per cent of eligible voters, compared with 50.1 per cent men.
By age bracket, voters aged 18 to 24 make up 17.5 per cent of the electorate, those aged 25 to 35 represent 30.6 per cent, those aged 36 to 45 account for 20.8 per cent, voters aged 46 to 55 constitute 14.3 per cent, and those over 55 account for 16.8 per cent.
The commission stated that approximately 51,000 eligible voters with disabilities are registered in the West Bank, representing 3.2 per cent of the local electorate.
Comparable data is not available for the Gaza Strip.
The CEC added that it will make all necessary arrangements to facilitate full participation for voters with disabilities.-MalayaDailyToday
