KUALA LUMPUR – Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been granted permission to pay his final respects to the late Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi at the National Mosque this morning.
His lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, informed the High Court that a formal request had been submitted to the Prisons Department earlier today to allow Najib’s attendance at the state funeral of Malaysia’s fifth Prime Minister.
“The Prisons Department is currently making arrangements for Najib’s travel to the National Mosque. We are requesting that this morning’s trial proceedings be postponed,” Shafee told the court during Najib’s ongoing 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) trial.
He further requested that Najib be allowed to leave the High Court premises at 10:15 a.m. to attend the funeral rites.
Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi passed away on April 14 at the National Heart Institute (IJN) at the age of 85. A state funeral is being held today, with prayers and a final farewell at the National Mosque before his burial at the Makam Pahlawan. -MalayaDailyToday
