KUALA LUMPUR – Former Malaysian prime minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad has been admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur early this morning after suffering a fall at his residence.
According to his press secretary, Suffi Yusoff, Tun Mahathir, aged 100, was taken by ambulance to IJN at around 9:30 am following the incident and is currently under comprehensive medical observation.
Suffi confirmed the fall to media when contacted and added that a formal statement on his health condition will be issued soon as doctors continue their assessment.
Reports say Tun Mahathir remained conscious upon arrival at the hospital, but officials have not yet provided detailed information about the severity of his condition.
This is not the first time the veteran statesman has required hospital care in recent years, having been admitted previously for ailments related to age and health.
Widely recognised as Malaysia’s longest-serving prime minister with a total of 24 years in office, Tun Mahathir played a central role in shaping the nation’s modern economy and infrastructure.
Officials and family members have urged the public to await updates from medical professionals as his treatment progresses. -MalayaDailyToday
