KUALA LUMPUR – PAS cannot stay on the sidelines over the Negeri Sembilan royal crisis when its representatives are part of the state administration at the centre of the controversy, says AMK Information Chief Danish Hairudin.
He is demanding that PAS explain whether its representatives in the state executive council backed or objected to the decision linked to the proclamation concerning the position of Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
Danish said the question was particularly important after the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar stated that the decision was unanimously supported by all Exco members.
“If the PAS representatives supported the decision, they should come forward and defend it.
“If they objected, PAS should state when the objection was made and why the Menteri Besar announced it as a unanimous decision,” he said in a statement.
Danish said PAS could not remain silent as though the crisis had nothing to do with the party, given its representation in the state executive council.
He said the public deserved clarity on who made the decision, who supported it and who should take responsibility.
“Silence cannot be the way out. PAS must answer. The people have the right to know who made the decision, who supported it and who should be held responsible,” he said.
Danish also questioned PAS’ silence in light of the party’s longstanding emphasis on the position and sovereignty of the Malay Rulers.
“When its representatives are part of an administration directly involved in this crisis, the people have the right to hear PAS’ own position,” he said.
He added that the issue was not merely a political dispute but also a matter of political responsibility involving representatives who sit in the state administration.
The controversy centres on the state government’s decision linked to the proclamation concerning Tuanku Muhriz, which has since triggered competing views over its validity and the authority of the state government in matters concerning the position of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan. -MalayaDailyToday
