PUTRAJAYA – A 30-year-old cook who allegedly triggered a chaotic shoving match during the National Day celebrations at Dataran Putrajaya on Monday has tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), police revealed.
The suspect surrendered himself at the Putrajaya District Police Headquarters (IPD) at around 12:15 AM today following widespread public outrage over viral footage of the incident.
Putrajaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Aidi Sham Mohamed, confirmed that investigators have received five formal reports regarding the provocation and have recorded statements from seven key witnesses to assist with the investigation.
“A initial urine screening conducted on the suspect came back positive for THC, the psychoactive component in cannabis,” ACP Aidi Sham stated. “Concurrently, the case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.”
A remand application under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code was granted by the magistrate’s court today, allowing police to detain the suspect for one day starting Wednesday.
The arrest follows several viral video clips circulating across social media platforms showing a man clad in a brown shirt verbally provoking on-duty police officers during the celebrations.
The footage also captured the suspect aggressively barging into and shoving members of the public who were peacefully queuing for the seating area gates to open. The sudden surge triggered a brief stampede-like commotion, causing several bystanders to fall to the ground. -MalayaDailyToday
