KEDAH – The number of flood victims in Kedah is increasing, with 3,655 victims from 1,163 families now relocated to 24 temporary evacuation centers (PPS) in four districts as of 8am today.
This figure increased compared to 3,496 victims from 1,126 families recorded at 8pm the previous day. Additionally, another new PPS was opened in Pokok Sena yesterday.
According to Major (PA) Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain, Deputy Director of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Kedah, Kota Setar recorded the highest increase with 1,697 victims from 517 families placed in nine relief centers.
In the Kubang Pasu district, there are 870 victims from 307 families in eight relief centers, while Pokok Sena recorded 574 victims from 200 families. Pendang, on the other hand, has 514 victims from 139 families.
The new PPS opened in Pokok Sena is at the Surau Desa KEDA, which has accommodated 55 victims from 14 families since 6.30pm yesterday.
In other developments, the Public Infobanjir website of the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) reported that four rivers in two districts continue to show readings above the danger level.
Two rivers in Kota Setar, namely Sungai Anak Bukit at the TAR Bridge and Sungai Anak Bukit in Taman Aman, as well as in Kubang Pasu involving Sungai Padang Terap at Kepala Batas and Sungai Bata in Kampung Bata, were at dangerous levels at 8am this morning. -MalayaDailyToday
