KLANG – A 21-year-old man believed to be involved in the abduction of a 16-year-old girl was shot dead by police early this morning following a dramatic chase and exchange of gunfire in Klang.
The teenager, who was kidnapped in Seremban on April 10, was safely released the next day after her family paid a ransom of RM280,000 and handed over several pieces of jewellery to her captors.
Deputy Director (Operations/Intelligence) of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department, Datuk Fadil Marsus, said the victim was abducted around 5.45 pm and later released in Sendayan, Negeri Sembilan at approximately 8.30 pm the following day.
“The kidnappers initially demanded RM2 million in ransom, but the victim’s family only managed to deliver RM280,000 along with some jewellery,” he revealed during a press conference today.
Following an intense police investigation, multiple arrests and raids were carried out in connection to the kidnapping case.
According to Fadil, the suspect was tracked down in the Klang area around 5.00 am this morning. A high-speed pursuit ensued, ending in Jalan Bayu Tinggi, Bandar Bukit Tinggi.
“The suspect refused to stop and rammed into a police vehicle. He then opened fire at the officers before being cornered and fatally shot,” he said.
Authorities believe the vehicle driven by the suspect was the same one used to drop off the victim in Sendayan after her release.
A search of the car uncovered a pistol and a machete, suggesting the suspect was prepared for further violence.
Fadil expressed his gratitude to members of the public who provided crucial information that led to the takedown of the kidnapping ring.
“This success would not have been possible without the cooperation and vigilance of the community,” he added.
Police investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the kidnapping network and whether more individuals were involved in the crime. -MalayaDailyToday
