KUALA LUMPUR – PKR’s move to issue a show-cause letter to former Deputy President, Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli over his declared intention to contest the next general election on a non-PKR ticket has been met with defiance from the Pandan MP, who insists he remains a party member and will not be cowed.
Rafizi confirmed today that he received the party’s letter questioning his earlier announcement, but stressed he has not resigned from PKR nor joined another political party, meaning he remains an ordinary member and, by extension, cannot be removed from Parliament by the party.
He clarified that his plan to contest General Election-16 is contingent on the dissolution of Parliament, at which point he will no longer be bound by anti-party hopping laws.
“Once I am no longer an MP, I’m free to decide next steps,” he said in a social media video.
Turning the tables on party leadership, Rafizi described the show-cause notice as symbolic rather than substantive, likening it to past internal disagreements over voting systems and governance reforms.
He said party insiders are now trying to use past grievances to undermine his parliamentary seat, despite him not formally quitting PKR.
“I will respond and clarify my stance to PKR leadership. After that, let them do whatever they choose,” Rafizi said, adding that he believes his actions are observed by a higher moral standard.
In a pointed comparison, he suggested that if he were a member of another party specifically Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia he might already have been expelled for similar conduct, referencing high-profile leadership decisions in that party.
He also hinted at differences in leadership style between PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and other party chiefs. -MalayaDailyToday
