KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has strongly condemned the brutal attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, calling on the international community to support efforts to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice.
In a statement posted on his official social media channels today, Anwar described the attack, which claimed the lives of 26 Indian nationals and one Nepalese citizen, as a premeditated act of cruelty that targeted civilians in a calculated and inhumane manner.
“The reports suggesting that victims were deliberately singled out before being executed reveal a shocking level of orchestrated violence devoid of any humanity. Such acts of terror have no place in any civilised society,” Anwar stated.
The tragedy, which occurred in a popular tourist area of Pahalgam, marks the deadliest civilian attack in the region since 2000, further intensifying concerns about safety and stability in the conflict-prone area.
Anwar extended his condolences on behalf of the Malaysian people to the families of the victims and expressed hope for the swift recovery of those injured.
“In these tragic moments, wisdom and moderation are of utmost importance. Acts of violence that threaten to fracture unity must never be tolerated,” he added.
He also urged the international community to remain steadfast in upholding peace, justice, and human dignity, and to ensure that such atrocities are never repeated.
Kashmir, administered by India, has remained a hotbed of conflict since 1989, following the rise of armed separatist movements demanding independence or unification with Pakistan. The region continues to witness periodic surges of violence that disproportionately affect civilian populations. -MalayaDailyToday
