Prema’s Journey: Shaping Young Minds, One Child at a Time
KUALA LUMPUR – From a young age, Johor-born Prema Latha knew that education was her calling. What began as a passion for teaching soon evolved into a greater dream—not just to educate, but to leave a lasting impact in early childhood education.
Determined to turn her passion into a meaningful career, Prema enrolled in the Early Childhood Home Care (ECH) programme under the Malaysian Indian Skills Initiative (MISI). Today, she is well on her way to becoming a certified Early Childhood Educator, as she works towards obtaining her PERMATA certification—a crucial qualification that will enable her to nurture and shape the minds of young children.
“Being an Early Childhood Teacher (ECT) means I get to experience the magic of childhood through the eyes of my students. It’s a privilege to guide them through their first steps in learning,” says Prema.
She describes her journey as a “dream come true”, made possible through the opportunities provided by MISI.
“I am beyond grateful to Kerajaan Madani for this opportunity. My dream has finally become a reality,” she adds.
The ECH training programme was successfully conducted from 21 to 25 November 2024 in Repah, Negeri Sembilan, equipping participants—including homemakers, school leavers, preschool teachers, and single mothers—with essential skills and knowledge to build a sustainable career in early childhood education.
According to HRD Corp, this initiative not only prepares individuals for high-paying jobs but also empowers them to start their own childcare services, fostering economic growth within the Malaysian Indian community.
The programme received strong support from YB Tuan Veerapan Superamaniam, Negeri Sembilan State EXCO & ADUN Repah, who personally attended a training session in his constituency. His presence underscored the importance of MISI’s mission, led by YB Steven Sim Chee Keong, Minister of Human Resources, in providing upskilling and reskilling opportunities to uplift the Indian community.
MISI: Transforming Lives Through Skills & Knowledge
MISI was officially announced by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim during a special Labour Day interview on 1 May 2024. In his address, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering the Malaysian Indian community, unveiling a RM30 million funding pledge from KESUMA, MITRA, and the Ministry of Finance to drive the initiative forward.
Since its launch in September 2024, MISI has successfully conducted over 100 training programmes, benefiting more than 6,000 Malaysian Indians. These industry-driven courses focus on high-demand fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Smart Farming, Cybersecurity, Drone Technology, Retort Technology, Superbike Maintenance, EV Maintenance, and Data Science.
