MELAKA – In a case that has shocked the nation, a 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murdering his mother and elder brother and seriously injuring his younger sibling, allegedly driven by long-standing academic pressure.
The teenager, a Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidate, was detained by police around 5.00 am on Wednesday at the family’s home in Taman Rambai Mutiara, Bukit Rambai.
At the time of arrest, the boy was reportedly sitting in silence outside the house. He later confessed to stabbing his 51-year-old mother, a schoolteacher, and his 21-year-old brother. He also admitted to attempting to kill his 13-year-old younger brother, who survived the attack and is currently in stable condition at a local hospital.
Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar confirmed details of the case during a press conference at the state police headquarters earlier today.
“Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect had been harbouring resentment over prolonged academic pressure and allegedly felt forced to study by his family. He is believed to have planned the attack in advance,” Dzulkhairi said.
According to police, the teen used a 20-centimetre folding knife kept hidden in his school bag to carry out the attack. The victims sustained multiple stab wounds, mainly to the neck, back, and torso.
The horror unfolded in the early hours of the morning, with the mother and elder brother found dead in the living room, both covered in blood. It is believed the older brother tried to intervene but was fatally wounded in the attempt.
Also present at the press conference was Melaka Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Leow Kian Heong.
Dzulkhairi added that CCTV footage from a nearby location showed the suspect attempting to dispose of the knife and other items, but police later recovered the evidence.
Toxicology reports revealed that the teenager was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident.
The suspect is expected to be remanded at the Melaka Court Complex tomorrow as police continue investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. MalayaDailyToday
