KUALA LUMPUR – Laughter, excitement, and the rustle of new school bags filled the air as over 1,001 students across Selangor and Kuala Lumpur received essential school supplies in the 8th annual Back-to-School Program 2026, organised by Malik Streams Corporation. The initiative, now a beloved fixture in the Malaysian community calendar, aims to equip young students with the tools they need to start the school year confidently.
Originally planned to benefit 1,000 students, the overwhelming demand saw the program extended to include all primary school students from Year 1 to Year 6 who qualified for support. Each child received a package containing school uniforms, shoes, bags, stationery, and other essentials, ensuring no student was left behind.
Datuk Abdul Malik Bin Dasthigeer, Chairman and Founder of Malik Streams Corporation, said the program is deeply personal to him. “I grew up in Jalan Masjid India and pursued my education at St. John Institution, Kuala Lumpur. I know firsthand the struggles of not having proper school essentials. This program is my way of giving back and making sure that no child starts the school year feeling unprepared or left out,” he shared.
Abdul Malik highlighted the broader mission behind the initiative. “It’s not just about uniforms or shoes. It’s about confidence, dignity, and encouragement. When a child walks into school fully equipped, they feel ready to learn, participate, and dream bigger. We want every student to have that feeling,” he added.

The program, now in its 8th year, has grown steadily over time, with more schools and students included each year. This year, an additional 100 students benefited from the increased funding, and plans are already underway to expand the program nationwide in 2027. “We hope to touch the lives of thousands more children, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds,” Abdul Malik said.
Schools across multiple districts were part of the program, including SJK(T) Ladang Sungai Buloh, SJK(T) Ladang Bestari Jaya, SJK(T) Bukit Rotan, Rumah Kasih Harmoni, Pusat Jagaan Kasih Murni, and many others, ensuring 1,001 students received their school essentials. Teachers and school principals expressed their gratitude for the initiative, noting how it boosts students’ morale and excitement for learning.

Encouraging a Brighter Future
The initiative is not only about material support but also about inspiring students to stay focused and positive in their education. “Programs like this teach children that society cares about them, that their education matters,” said a teacher from SJK(T) Ladang Bestari Jaya. “It gives them a sense of pride and motivation to do well in school.”
Parents, too, were full of praise. Many shared that receiving the school supplies relieved financial burdens and allowed their children to feel equal and confident among their peers. One parent said, “Seeing my child’s eyes light up when she received her uniform and bag – it’s priceless. It’s not just supplies; it’s a boost to her self-esteem and excitement for the new school year.”
Abdul Malik reflected on his vision for the program, saying it is part of a long-term effort to nurture the next generation of Malaysians. “Every child deserves the chance to pursue their education fully equipped, regardless of their background. This initiative is a small but meaningful step to ensure that every student starts school happy, confident, and ready to achieve great things,” he said.

The program was made possible through the combined efforts of Malik Streams and MS Gold & Diamonds, school principals, teachers, Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), NGOs, and volunteers who ensured that all supplies reached the intended students efficiently. The support of the community has been critical in maintaining the success and growth of this program over the past eight years.
As the 2026 school year begins, the Back-to-School Program has once again succeeded in spreading joy, confidence, and hope among Malaysian students. With Abdul Malik’s dedication and vision, the initiative continues to be a shining example of how corporate social responsibility can make a tangible difference in the lives of children and the broader community. -MalayaDailyToday
