KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) has played a vital role in delivering humanitarian aid to Myanmar, contributing 3 tonnes of relief supplies as part of a larger 15-tonne shipment sent to the earthquake-stricken region. This comes after the country was rocked by a devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake on 28 March 2025.
The relief items from MRC include 100 kitchen sets, 200 hygiene kits, 1,085 sanitary pad sets, 94 blankets, 348 mosquito nets, and a range of other essential supplies. Along with the material assistance, MRC also deployed two volunteers to assist with the mission on the ground, demonstrating the organisation’s ongoing commitment to helping affected communities in crisis.
The 15-tonne consignment was part of a collaborative effort led by the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), in partnership with MRC and other stakeholders within the Rakan NADMA Disaster Emergency Exercise (RANDEX). Among the partners involved in this joint humanitarian mission are Tzu Chi Malaysia, Kembara Kitchen, Pertubuhan Ihsan Johor, and MyCARE. This collective effort underscores Malaysia’s unwavering unity and compassion in the face of regional disasters.

The aid shipment was transported aboard the return flight of the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART), who are expected to return to Malaysia on 7 April 2025 after completing their search and rescue operations in the affected regions. The distribution of the relief supplies in Myanmar is being managed by a collaborative network involving NADMA, MRC, Myanmar Red Cross Society, and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
Dato’ Danial Iskandar Abdul Rahman, Secretary General of MRC, expressed pride in the swift and effective collaboration between the Malaysian Red Crescent and NADMA, stating, “This mission reflects the strong and effective partnership between the Malaysian Red Crescent and NADMA in responding swiftly to humanitarian needs. We are proud to stand alongside our government agencies and partners to deliver life-saving support to our neighbors in Myanmar. MRC remains steadfast in our commitment to provide humanitarian services both locally and across the region.”
This mission not only highlights Malaysia’s commitment to regional humanitarian efforts but also serves as a call for continued public and corporate support for ongoing relief activities. MRC is urging individuals, businesses, and community organizations to contribute to the relief operations.
