KUALA LUMPUR – In a bold step toward regional upskilling and inclusive development, Malaysia will open its flagship learning initiative, National Training Week (NTW) 2025, to all ASEAN citizens, offering free access to more than 65,000 physical and online courses nationwide from June 14 to 21, 2025.
The announcement was made by Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong in conjunction with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025, under the broader banner of the ASEAN Year of Skills (AYOS).
Positioned to be Southeast Asia’s largest and most inclusive training programme, NTW 2025 will cover priority growth areas such as artificial intelligence, green technology, digital transformation, leadership, and soft skills. The programme will be delivered through a network of global and local partners, including Microsoft, Udemy, Alibaba Cloud, Awantec, and top Malaysian training providers.
“This is Malaysia’s investment in ASEAN and in our shared future,” Sim said at the ASEAN Human Capital Development Investment Symposium (AHCDIS) held in Kuala Lumpur. “For the first time, we are extending high-quality training beyond our borders to our neighbours across the region.”
Backed by HRD Corp under the Ministry of Human Resources, the initiative is expected to draw at least five million participants across ASEAN and provide training opportunities valued at over USD600 million (RM2.5 billion).
The massive scale of NTW 2025 underscores Malaysia’s growing role as a regional leader in skills development, aligning with its ambition to position ASEAN not just as a low-cost manufacturing base but a global innovation hub.
NTW will also complement other key AYOS 2025 events, including the ASEAN Training Market Conference in July, ASEAN TVET Conference in August, and the Global Skills Forum in October.
