KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia is exploring new prospects in educational and adventure tourism through a potential strategic collaboration with CYTS Xinjiang, said Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.
In a recent meeting with CYTS Xinjiang representative Liang Changhong, the company presented its core business areas, which include educational tours to Xinjiang, customised adventure travel such as self-driving expeditions, trekking, and mountaineering, as well as outbound travel packages to Southeast Asia particularly Malaysia and Singapore.

“Their current focus is on winter travel packages to Malaysia and Singapore, especially around the Chinese New Year period.
“I see strong potential for us to expand our tourism offerings through creative and high-impact collaborations,” Tiong said.
He shared that several proposals were tabled during the discussion, including joint promotional initiatives, partnerships with durian orchard operators, and student exchange programmes between Malaysia and Xinjiang.
“We also explored the potential for charter flight cooperation. CYTS indicated that Malaysia is one of the top destinations for Xinjiang travellers. If we can establish two way charter flights, it could significantly reduce overall travel costs and benefit both sides,” he added.

Tiong noted that durian-themed travel packages had previously left a lasting impression among Chinese tourists, and he sees it as a unique niche attraction that could help boost tourism numbers.
“I believe this bilateral engagement can reach new heights and generate mutual benefits for both parties, in line with our aspirations for Visit Malaysia Year 2026,” he said. -MalayaDailyToday
