SHAH ALAM – Heavy and persistent rainfall since late yesterday has led to widespread flooding across multiple neighbourhoods in the districts of Shah Alam and Klang. Local authorities and residents have reported inundation at several hotspots including Kampung Kubu Gajah, Kampung Budiman, Taman Desa Kemuning, Taman Seri Muda, Kampung Delek (Kapar) and Meru in Klang. A real-time rainfall dataset shows continuous rain in the area, with some stations recording more than 20+ mm per hour.
According to a Facebook post by the Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam (MBSA) today, floodwaters have surged at Jalan Kampung Kubu Gajah 10, beside Jalan Kubu Gajah 5 in Section U17, rendering the latter impassable. Persiaran Budiman towards Section 25 is similarly underwater. MBSA enforcement officers are assisting elderly residents in Lorong Desa Kemuning 2B (Taman Desa Kemuning, Section 35) to relocate to safer ground.
Meanwhile, the rapid-response force from MBSA (PANTAS) has deployed teams in flood-prone sectors such as Sungai Damansara in Section 13 to monitor rising water levels. Although flood-pumps are operational, concerns remain over capacity given the sustained inflow.
Residents are advised to avoid travel through affected routes, and use posted alternative paths. Those in low-lying zones should remain on alert, especially as post-midnight drainage and river-overflow risks intensify. For emergency flood assistance in Shah Alam, contact PANTAS at 03-5510 5811.
Experts point out that both Shah Alam and Klang are historically vulnerable to flooding due to factors such as high annual rainfall (approx. 3,300 mm), saturated soils, urban drainage limitations and nearby river-systems.
As of now, MBSA and neighbouring local councils are keeping a close watch on weather updates, while residents in affected zones are urged to stay vigilant, follow local authority directives and avoid returning to flooded homes until declared safe. -MalayaDailyToday
